Welcome to the 2016-17 school year! We are thrilled to have your students back at Rutledge. During the summer, we’ve made some changes to the entryway of our building and want you to be aware of what these changes mean for you and your child.
Student safety is our top priority, and last year the district conducted an extensive month long, districtwide security audit. One recommendation that came from the audit was to renovate the front entryways to some of our campuses in order to create a single point of entry at each school. After reviewing best practices, the district moved forward with renovations to our front entryway to better control access to our building.
Beginning this school year, our school has a new secured receptionist area, and as a result, we will have changes to our campus entry process. Now all campus visitors will present their driver’s license to the receptionist at the Visitors’ Service Window in the secured receptionist area. At the Visitor’s Service Window, all visitors, with proof of identification, will be checked in through the visitor management system (Raptor), screened against the national registry of sex offenders, and once processed, given a “visitor badge” with their photo before they can enter the school beyond the secured receptionist area. The campus receptionist will be seated in the front vestibule behind the Visitors’ Service Window, with a line of sight to the front perimeter of our building as people approach the campus.
The renovations and changes to our campus-entry processes will enhance student safety by improving the surveillance, monitoring and tracking of everyone who attempts to enter our schools. No one will be able to enter our campus without getting access from front office personnel. As a result of these changes, it will likely take parents and other campus visitors more time to check in at the Visitors’ Service Window, so please allow extra time when you visit our school.
We appreciate your patience and understanding as we all adjust to this new campus entry process. We wanted you to be aware of the change so you can plan accordingly. We look forward to having you on our campus!
